Sponsored Kids – Meet Yague

Happy Sponsored Kids Friday, everyone!  Another week flew by, and somehow, the weekend is upon us!

As always, let’s kick off the weekend by meeting this week’s spotlighted kid: Yague.  Yague is most typically a surname in Spain, but its next most common occurrence globally is in Senegal. I haven’t been able to figure out what the name means yet, so let me know if any of you Sherlocks find any clues. This particular Yague just turned 15, lives in Diakhao, Senegal, and likes to write and play soccer.  He has 1 brother and 3 sisters and we have been sponsoring him since 2016.

I wanted to share an update from the Area Program Manager in Diakhao, which has to do with the efforts WV is taking to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Thank goodness World Vision is there and is able to help our friend, Yague, and his family.

“In the context of the global COVID-19 pandemic, we are sending you this correspondence to give you reassuring news from our community. Across the World Vision partnership, we are scaling up prevention measures to limit the spread of the disease, strengthening health systems and supporting healthcare workers, support children impacted through education, protection, food, mental and psychological support, as well as advocating and collaborating with policy makers. We are fighting the spread of this pandemic through hand washing kits, soap, antibacterial gel and masks. We continue to monitor children and their communities thanks to the unfailing support of volunteers, who also play a very important role in raising awareness and strengthening hygiene and compliance measures to stop the spread of this disease. With them, we supervise the distribution of food for the most vulnerable.”

So, thank goodness, all is going well in the communities our sponsored kids live in. Please continue to pray for health and protection as this disease reaches different parts of the world.
