Sponsored Kids – Meet Serigne

Happy Sponsored Kids Friday, all!

I’m going to keep today’s post short since it’s the 2nd post of the week. Thanks for taking the time to read it!

Today we get to meet another special kid:  Serigne Fallou.  Serigne Fallou is from Sinthiang Koundara in Senegal.  He is 15 years old and the only boy in his family, with 2 sisters.  They all live with their parents, a farm laborer and housewife.  SF’s favorite subject in school is history, so in his honor, I found a fun historical fact about Senegal:

* In the 16th century, when the Portuguese visited the country’s coast, the fishermen said “sunu gaal”, which translates to “these are our boats”. The Portuguese, who didn’t understand the Wolof language, took the words to be the name of the country – and thus, it became called “Senegal”.  (source: afrikanza.com)
